If you asked any of my friends, 'what is one thing that Ruby could not go a day without?' - other than my phone (guilty social media addict), the answer would be my daily cup (or two) of MATCHA!

My matcha addiction is widely known throughout my friend group, and has gotten to the point where a few of my friends have made jokes about sending me to 'matcha rehab'. Plain matcha tea, matcha lattes, matcha Pocky, matcha cakes (The one at SQIRL in LA is my fav), matcha chocolate - it doesn't matter, if it has matcha in it I WANT IT.

That being said, you could probably imagine my excitement when I connected with the owner of MATCHA NINJA, a Toronto based raw organic matcha company!!!!!!! (can you tell how excited I am through my excessive use of exclamation marks)

**DISCLAIMER** If you came here looking for one of those BS 'Skinny teas' which are being paraded around Instagram, you came to the wrong place.

Matcha is a finely ground powder of specially grown green tea leaves - and it's F****** delicious!! Matcha originates from the late 12th century, when the Buddhist monk Eisai expanded the properties of green tea, by grinding his tea leaves into a fine powder.

- High in antioxidants, including EGCg (prevents aging and chronic disease)
- Detoxifies your body naturally
- Boosts metabolism
- Rich in fiber, chlorophyll, vitamin c, zinc
- Gives you a natural boost of energy without the caffine jitters
- Calms the mind and relaxes the body

Now, I will admit that my first cup of 'matcha' (if you can even call it that) DID regrettably come from Starbucks, but I have since learned that not every matcha is created equally.

If you're one of the poor suckers still drinking Starbucks' poor excuse for matcha, just know that you're basically just ingesting powdered green sugar with ZERO health benefits (no seriously, Starbucks lists sugar before green tea powder on its matcha ingredient list - which means that there is more sugar in their powder than green tea itself).

It's super important to find a matcha brand that contains good quality ingredients, which is what drew me to Matcha Ninja.

Matcha Ninja uses specially selected tea leaves which are de-stemmed and finely ground for a longer period than regular matcha, which allows for a more soluble and superior tasting powder. With most matcha powder, you need to physically whisk for a minute in hot water before you can make your tea or latte - Matcha Ninja is super soluble in warm and cold water, no whisk needed - just add the powder to a water bottle or tea tumbler, shake and go! (This is perfect for someone like me who is constantly on the go)

Using organically grown leaves is very important to Matcha Ninja, not only for their pure taste, but because unlike other teas which you steep, with matcha, you are ingesting the tea leaves (aka the powder).
