I try to take SPIRULINA every day - whether its in tablet form or in my smoothies! Spirulina is a superfood blue/green plant algae that provides a concentrated source of protein, vitamins, and antioxidants.

Some of the benefits of spirulina are :

1. It is 65% protein and amino acid - including the essential fatty acid GLA (gamma linolenic acid) which is popular for it's anti-inflammatory properties - GLA is difficult to find in food sources and normally has to be created by the body, but spirulina is one of the few foods with natural GLA content!

2. It is packed with chlorophyll - which helps remove toxins from the blood and boosts your immune system

3. It is high in calcium and has 26 times the amount of calcium than cow's milk

4. It is a great source of vitamins and nutrients

5. It can increase fat burning with and during exercise

It's such a simple word, but now it has such negative connotations attached to it.

If for some reason you have been living under a rock for the past couple of years (or have just been lucky enough to never encounter this slang) and don't know what it means to be 'basic', head on over to Urban Dictionary, where you will be greeted with definitions such as

1. Used to describe someone lacking defining characteristics that might make a person interesting, extraordinary, or just simply worth devoting time or attention to.

Long story short...The 'Basic B!t$h' is 2015's 'Plain Jane'

It's probably every millennial girl's fear to be referred to as 'basic'...Don't believe me? Next time you're out with a twenty-something girl who thinks she's swag AF, tell her she's basic...but don't say I didn't warn you...

Now...sorry to burst ALL YA'LLS SELF-CENTERED BUBBLES, but *** you're not original ***. We're all basic AF... Now we may not all be 'unworthy and uninteresting' as Urban Dictionary has so kindly put it...BUT that outfit you're rocking thinking that you're OG isn't actually as original as you think. We live in a world where it is so easy to 'creep' or spend hours on social media looking at what others are wearing, that we may adopt a fragment of that person's style without even realizing. The point is, we all draw inspiration from others to build ourselves. Very rarely do people define their own style completely free of influence from others - Hell you could go out into the street wearing a fucking plastic bag thinking you must definitely be original, only to find out that it was actually a trend in Taiwan a couple weeks ago (True story, Google it).

Now don't get all sad because you've just realized that deep down we are all just big COPY CATS...I personally believe there is absolutely nothing wrong with drawing on inspiration from others - it doesn't make you less 'you', in fact it is what makes you, you. It's also what makes Kanye, Kanye (there you go, now you feel a little better about yourself knowing that Kanye also is a copycat).

The combination of places where you draw your inspiration from creates your uniqueness.

So to end my 'basic' rant - I thought I would share some of the sites that I love and frequently pull inspiration from :)

White Tee - Calvin Klein, 'Mom Jeans' - Topshop, Shoes - Nike 'Huaraches'

SO...It's September...Which, in Toronto means it could pretty much snow next week...

Now I dunno about you guys, but I am NOT ready to say goodbye to summer yet. As for my mini end of summer bucket list, I have crossed two of my to-do's off the list!!! A couple weeks ago my friend picked me up and we drove out to Etobicoke to get late night Tom's dairy freeze, which we took to Sugar Beach! So now I've tested out Tom's dairy freeze, and gone to the beach (even though it was at like 11pm...)

Side note - Tom's dairy freeze is the boom boom, if you haven't been, it's definitely worth the trek out to Etobicoke!

ANYWAY...To pay tribute to the end of summer, I decided to throw together a little mix of old and new songs that have a summer vibe! I made this mix for casual afternoon drives around the city. So get in your car, throw this mix on, wind your windows down, and enjoy the final days of summer!
